I forward this query to a friend (not subscribed to ilugd list) who has
experience in this domain, and following is his reply:

As for as my knowledge and exposure is concerned none of the Indian
and, or foreign brokers provide a native Linux based trading client;
though there are some based java VM, but I tested and, or used TWS
(Trade WorkStation) from Interactive Brokers only, which is too
primitive or does not have even the very basic features a modern
traders needs.

Nothing is perfect in this world, not even the God, hence I had been
struggling with whatever the brokers provide. I sent requests to many
Indian brokers join hands for developing a F/OSS TC (Trading Client)
based in an industry standard FIX protocol around 3-4 years ago, but
none bothered to care and, or provide information or API (Application
Programming Interface) for their servers.

If we leave aside, trading terminal part, we have a nice native
Technical Analysis platform developed on and for Linux and Unix-like
systems, please check http://qtstalker.sourceforge.net/ for further
details.

I also maintain a personalized copy, repository, ports and, or builds
of the same which can accessed at
http://anu.homelinux.net/ports#qtstalker-devel,
http://anu.homelinux.net/usr/ports/finance/qtstalker-devel/ChangeLog,
http://anu.homelinux.net/ports and
http://anu.homelinux.net/pub/Debian/ links. see also

IMHO, the truth is that most of the programmers are not traders and
the traders don't have or can't find time to learn programming.
