Hi I guess you must be using bridged networking ! There is no possibility of 'pinging' the netbios names rather you can use nmblookup on those names
WINS is dynamic and every system registers to WINS when it comes up. As we are not there in the picture at all, there is less possiblilty of knowing the netbios names Might be , if there is a DNS server, then you can specify - but you cannot specify the WINS server as DNS ! --- Harshal Vaidya <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi, > We have a Windows network in our company. The Domain > name resolution over the LAN is managed by the WINS > server which is specific to microsoft.I generally run > Linux in the company over VMware.I want my linux box > to recognise the machines over the LAN by their > NETBIOS names.I can connect to other machines by > ipaddress. > > what will i have to do to make this thing work? > > -- Harshal. > > ===== > Harshal Vaidya. > > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Try FREE Yahoo!
