we go around in circles: LAP, free-ed, LinuxMigration.
overlaps, redundancies, diffused efforts.
nevertheless, we have the freedom to make these forks.
those who really wish to get things done, could take on things still pending
in the first two projects. dhruv mentioned dse still pending. am sure prateek
has tonnes of things todo in lap. meanwhile, am doing a lot of research and
re-strategizing on free-ed, and must thank those who are helping me out.
i also wish to propose another equally important initiative:
ilug members must share and grow their knowledge base among themselves.
a member or two could volunteer to share with others a basic
overview+advanced stuff+q&a, on a topic of choice.
so whoever understands partitioning and installation could explain to others,
mostly newbies. another could explain samba, nfs, and filesystems. still
another could share firewalls and security, and another could explain how to
set up a server. another could demo openoffice migration.
u know, linux lives in rarefied oxygen. contrary to what u may think, very
few people really understand all the significant issues and technologies
associated with linux.
out of the more than 1 billion people in india, perhaps 20 million use
computers. imagine those who use and understand linux. (the figures may not
be exact, but you get the picture.)
besides, people join user groups and special interest groups, *also* to
further their learning, and to share and learn from peers.
i am willing to share what i know. if we have more volunteers, this could
become even more interesting and wonderful.
and we don't have to wait to grow in numbers and logistics to launch a
linuxdelhi200x to figure it out.
this would be the first step in that direction, anyways.
