Hi! Some of us are working to get a member directory for people staying in East delhi. Some important points regarding this:
1. We all agree that Delhi being huge(40x40=1600 sq. km. at a minimum), a bit of localisation never hurts. 2. This is primarily so that people living in this area can get in touch with each other to discuss problems, get CDs, write CDS, geek talk, local linux drives, organise venues for getting ILUGD meets in this area often, having regular addas, swapping manly stories, etc. 3. It is more convenient for nearby people to drop in each others places on weekends rather than travelling all the way to the rest of delhi. I am not completely convinced that this is necessarily a good thing though. ;) 4. We are also inviting people from Ghaziabad, NOIDA,Sahibabad, etc. to enlist in this directory. The idea is for people in nearby areas to get together more often. 5. WE started collecting member information in yesterdays meet. I am not sure which guy - Prateek or Gami , has the present list. Will the person in question stand up and volunteer to be the contact person for the rest of the folks to send in their details? ;) 6. This would also help in a plan that I had in having a "Find an ILUGD member near you" kind of feature in the ILUGD website. 7. VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT MAIL ME OR THIS MAILING LIST WITH YOUR CONTACT DETAILS. We would put up the address for you to send mails to. 8. THIS IS NOT AN ATTEMPT TO START A PARALLAL ILUGD. I mention this because some might have that misconception. The idea is just that when I want to get help for something linux related , I, living in Patparganj, would find my next-door neighbour more convenient to get in touch with rather than someone in Dwarka. 9. We also wish that the rest of the areas in delhi get localised member directories in place (one is sorely needed in West and North Delhi, for example). A good idea might be to map a person home on a city map. - Sandip -- -------------------------------------------------------- Sandip Bhattacharya sandipb <@> bigfoot.com http://www.sandipb.net GPG/PGP: 0x08EB637C -------------------------------------------------------- ================================================ To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe in subject header.
