hi all,

i was just reading robert love's interview on tinyminds.org, and he was mentioning about the preemption patch in 2.5, and the faster response that one can expect..

question: while working in mozilla, scrolling the browser, the xmms gets "hung" up miserably... in the sense well technically it doesnt get hung, but for the few seconds that i scroll (or a part of it..) the songs just about stops, or basically repeats a very short fraction of the song over and over...
as soon as the scroll bar is released... the songs play perfect again..

note:
1. this is a default rh8.0 installation, kernel 2.4.18-18
2. no modification to xmms...

is this expected to go in 2.5.x / 2.6 with Love's preemption patch, and is this what he is talking about?
if not then please could someone give an example of what "fast reponse" is ?

affly
robins

p.s.: please could someone tell me how to change the runlevels in rh8.0 ? i have compiled the new kernels, but using lilo used to be easier in mandrake8.1 or rh7.1 or earlier... now it just gets hung after all the boot-up messages, coz it isnt able to switch "authomatically" to X...
