Hello Abu,

Though I have successfully installed these operating systems with the help of Linux 7.3 Book (Bible's) and using the same version of Linux. However, all I want to know is that what will be the right partitioning strategy for 40 GB HDD for installating these OS. as while installing linux I come across some messages generated by linux which indicates that i have not partitioned my HDD correctnly.

For your information, I have partitioned my 40 GB HDD as 5 GB as Primary partition and in extended partition, I have further assigned 5 GB as logical (for installing Linux) and rest has been assigned to  two logical drives equally. Now I have installed my win.98 on primary ie. on C and Red hat on next 15 GB ie. on D and win.2000 on E and F is totally free.

Secondly, sometimes after installation of linux, one of the OS may not run eg. it may be linux, Win98 or Win2000. Though I prepare a boot diskette (linux) to handle it. And if linux does not work then I boot it with linux bootable floppy and then go to /etc directory and compile the lilo or grub.conf file. then on restarting the computer I get the linux and windows OS screen. This is only in the case of not working of linux. Please tell me how I can handle this problem if my Win98 or Win2000 does not work ?

Thirdly, in my office I am using SCO 5.5 Unix Server and we are using HCL COBOL version 4.0. On Unix this cobol runs fine and I am able to compile all my cobol programs. But while copying the same cobol files (software) in the respective directories of linux (as those are in unix) and when I try to run a cobol program it generates the error message as 'Cob file is binary form' and when I try to run it in SU (super user) mode it gives the error message as 'permission denied' . As you could better understand that there is not much difference between Unix and Linux Shell system files.  I wish to run this cobol compiler on my Home's PC on which I have installed the OS mentioned above. May I send these cobol (software) files to you alongwith the related information of installation for trying it at your end. I shall be very much thankful to you, if you could pin point the problem and solve the same.

Lastly can you tell me if there is any cobol software which is installed while installing linux as we usally get 'C' compiler and other languages while installting linux. If yes, what is the compilation code for it eg. in unix I run it as cob <cobol file name> or cob <source programe> <compiled program>.

Looking forard your valuable guidance and thanks a lot once again.

Friendly yours,

Malkiat
