Dear Friends,
My father tells me that a very large numbers of govt
officials (beaurocrats, govt software/IT companies etc.)
involved in e-governance (more of office automation/inter
office communication) feel that not much support is available
on Linux or other open source/free softwares.
There fore, they will continue to use Microsoft.
Can some of us (and members of other Linux Users' Group) take
up the task of educating and supporting Linux/Open
Source/Free Software(L/OSS/FSW) initiatives?
My father feels that the problems are :
(i) Ignorance : People do not know about L/OSS/FSW, having
seen MS as the only platform all their life and been
subjected to ruthless MS marketing.
(ii) Not willing to learn some thing different (the
technologists are in this category).
(iii) It doesn't make a difference, since no one will ever be
questioned about the huge spending (on software development,
software licences, hardware platforms, connectivity
requirements and the project failure).
(iv) The technologists/tech advisers are actually software
developers of the MS yore and cannot conceive of the entire
system. They have gone up the value chain by default rather
than by competence. They limit themselves to app development,
which is the only thing they know.
(v) MS plays a major role in effective brainwashing.
(vi) The people who conceive e-gov plans are too dependent on
the technologists, and can not comprehend of the total cost
of ownership.
Can I request some one to spearhead this service to the
nation?
Also, can some of us study OSS/FSW available which can be
used for e-gov and be easy to roll-out?
