As this system is multiboot and is consisting of win98, win2000 and RH Linux. As the sound card is working fine in win98 and win2000. I think change of slot for sound card would not be the ideal solution. Any way thanks for your reply.

Subject: [ilugd]: sound card problem in RH 7.3 linux (Via motherboard)

Dear All,

On  the requirement of one of my relative, I installed RH 7.3 on his computer. But upon playing a MP3 CD, I found that sound card is not working. Then I logged on a root user and gave the command as sndconfig to configure the sound card but it did not work. Then I issued the command sndconfig --noprobe and selected the sound card from its list. But  it did not work. For your information, it issues a message like ... you would now hear a sound ....etc... and no sound comes and then it still remain hangs at # prompt and then I come out of it by pressing Ctrl+C.  I would like to add for your information that they are having their motherboard as Via. If you want to know about the type of its sound card then I would let you know again as this time I do not remember.

Please help me out, I shall be thankful to you.

Thanks in advance.

Malkiat
