Hi there,
You don't need to worry about swap not being used.
System will use it if it wants to use. Try and use
#vmstat 1
and add up cache, buffer and free memory. That is the
memory available to system. If it gets exhausted, swap
IS used. There may be several other reasons for system
becoming slow for example - cpu going to about 100%
usage.
