I agree with you, Red Hat Inc played a pivotal role in the promotion of Linux especially in India and any activity is difficult to sustain without proper revenue model in place. RH is promoting its commercial version RHEL at the same time its also regularly releasing stable open source versions (Fedora series), Fedora is still one of the best open source flavour of linux in the world and to come out with stable releases on time does require good level of funding. Open source community is still benefiting out of all this.
