Try using the crop filter in mplayer to remove the borders. mplayer somefile.avi -vf cropdetect
Once the file starts playing mplayer tries to detect borders automagically and then gives some output like this: crop area: X: 63..719 Y: 160..499 (-vf crop=656:340:64:160) crop area: X: 63..719 Y: 157..499 (-vf crop=656:342:64:158) crop area: X: 63..719 Y: 157..499 (-vf crop=656:342:64:158) crop area: X: 63..719 Y: 157..499 (-vf crop=656:342:64:158) then quit mplayer and do this: mplayer somefile.avi -vf crop=656:342:64:158 Your problem should be solved, but remember this won't work on full screen, you will have to scale or use dsize to remove borders as well as scale simultaneously.
