Hi folks, Firstly, thanks to Thej for doing such a fabulous job of organizing the monthly meets in my absence, and enabling us to relive the spirit of OSS.(* cheers and applause *)
An interesting thing that I wanted to bring forward is about "Volunteers". We have grown big and have a good mix of newbies, geeks and the many more on the list. I am amazed at the fact that we attract a lot of newbies and help them in starting their FOSS journey. All this sounds good ! But, we can still do better.. In the last month's meet, I have expressed the idea of taking some initiatives as a group and contributing to the OSS community. I'd like to emphasize on the fact that, active participation is key to the success of a community. It fosters a healthy, competitive, tech environment to learn and grow together. And we can have mutual benefits with this as well. This is a very good opportunity for* students* to come forward and take part in this initiative. Some of them I could think of: - Create, Contribute, and Lead FOSS projects. This can range from doing documentation work to working with college grads and guiding them on some potential OSS projects, and mentoring them etc. - Spreading the OSS knowledge to colleges and universities. etc. And there many more things we can accomplish as a group. I would like to see some volunteers who can spare their CPU cycles for this initiative. People who are interested and who can dedicate some time on this are more than welcome !!
