You will have to give more details -

Is the USB connected to the computer or is it the Ethernet ?
If the USB is connected to the computer, does linux recognise it, ie.
can you see it in the dmesg listing ?

What is the device in the converter. Knowing the IC inside may help in
searching for the driver.
