Dear ILWIS user,

Today we have received a fax with problems that some of our customers
have in order to install the ILWIS key with a COMPAQ CELERON.
We have given instruction on how to proceed before, but as this
is NOT an isolated case and we have provided them
with the latest Hardlock driver but this did not resolve the
problem.

One of the users have tried the following:

"Regarding the kind suggestion you made, allow me to give you
an abstract of the activities effected since July 28 of this
year, in order to install the ILWIS software on a COMPAC
PRESARIO 5373 computer with processor CELERON 466 Mhz, 96MB
RAM memory, Harddisk 15 Gb and running under Windows 98.

1. We first installed ILWIS, following the instruction
 described in the Installation Guide.
2. Installation of the Hardlock from the same CD-ROM.
When ILWIS did not function we copied the VDX file in
the System directory and the Command directory which
 also did not work.
3. Verify the printer port (LPT1) in its different modes:
ECC, ECP, EPP, Compatible and Bi-directional, without
result. It is import to note that the printer did work
connected directly to the port and over the ILWIS key.
4. Change the cable which connect the port to the
 motherboard.
5. Execute the quick restore program to reconfigure the
 computer to default settings.
6. Update the BIOS.
7. Execute different tests to verify the overall
 functionality of the computer.
8. Testing the key on a COMPAC Deskpro computer with
Pentium processor and on two COMPAC Presario computers
one with 5363 processor and the other with a processor
7469 giving positive results. Please note that the key
was not recognized by the COMPAC Presario computer
models 5373 and 5473, both with Celeron processor.
9. Additional testing on non-COMPAC computers with both
Windows 95 and 98 operating systems, without any
 problem.
10. Another harddisk was installed in an authorized COMPAC
 service center, without positive results.
11. Tests were carried out with "Look back" to verify the
 port. The result was positive.
12. The Hardlock versions (Hardlock and Hldrv32) were
updated with the latest version provided by ITC
(through HeRindser Ltd.), but non of these solutions
 worked.

As you can see, we have tried everything within our possibilities,
yet non has worked, causing serious delays in the projects that
we are carrying out.

For this reason, we would like to ask your collaboration in order
to solve this problem and avoid further delays."

Please tell us how to proceed.

Kind regards,
