The Department of Earth Systems Analysis (ESA) of the International Institute for
Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) is a centre of expertise in
geology, geomorphology, soil sciences, mineral exploration and exploration geophysics.
It seeks to provide and apply relevant geo-information for the understanding of earth
surface and geological processes for the sustainable use of georesources and for the
use of geoscience in the mitigation of natural and man-induced disasters. The focus is
on themes in the earth sciences that are of societal relevance, such as georesources
management, exploration and exploitation, land degradation, natural hazards and
disaster management in relation to earth dynamic processes, and environmental
geosciences and process modelling. The Institute also has a laboratory facility for
geochemical, water and soil analysis. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =
