Firstly, U have to change this area map to raster map. Check the name of the 
raster area. Suggest that the area raster map is AREA with the name of the 
area is "Pol 1", the image is TM. Then use the syntax:

newmap=iff(AREA="Pol 1", TM, ?)

You will get the study area u want from the image.

 Dear all:

 I have a polygin that indicate the border of sudy area( it's not a
regular shape).How can I overlay this polygon on image(TM data or arial
photo)and then extract just the area which located inside the polygon.
