I was going to write something about the show last night before i went to
bed, but then i decided i was too tired, and it would wait. :)
I managed to drag my boyfriend along, though he grumbled mightily about my
taste in "girlie indie bands". (I'm working on him, slowly but surely...)
The opening band, whose name i seem incapable of remembering, was kinda...
um. Not so great. Not bad, really... but, well, all their songs sounded
exactly the same. It would've helped if they, i dunno, changed the rhythm
once or twice in their 45-minute set. (And i'm sad: they mentioned that in
December, they'll be back in pittsburgh to open for His Name is Alive and
Ida. One one hand, this is good, because -Ida- is playing in pittsburgh;
on the other hand... said band is opening.)
Innocence mission themselves were quite good, though. I didn't try to copy
down the set list; sorry - i don't like taking notes. The first half of
the concert (roughly) was newer stuff -- i recognized one or two songs off
Birds, but i don't yet have Befriended, so i didn't know the majority of
those songs. The latter half was older stuff, which pleased me. I kept
hoping that they might play Wonder of Birds (first song i ever heard of
theirs, and still my favorite), but alas, it was not to be. (:sniffle:)
They played Bright as Yellow, at which point my boyfriend realized why
they sounded somewhat familiar to him... once upon a time, he had the
soundtrack to Empire Records, and apparently that was the one song that he
inevitably skipped. :sigh: Converting him to my musical tastes is proving
to be a long and ardurous task. :)
Unfortunately, the concert was somewhat marred for me by the fact that it
was incredibly smokey. I expected this, but sitting next to a table-full
of chain smokers really didn't help matters. My throat still burns.
Ah, well. I do think it was worth the arm-and-a-leg that ticketmaster
charged, regardless.
