hi emily, and thanks for the welcome. yep, i was
minorly obsessed with 10,000 maniacs back in the day,
which carried through to natalie merchant's solo
career. so, in 1995 or 1996, when i saw that natalie
was touring and another of my favorite bands was
OPENING, i was so psyched!

but to answer your question, i discovered the
innocence mission through an excellent pittsburgh
radio station, wyep, 91.3 fm. they're an independent,
public station that plays a good mix of
"somewhat-known" and unknown stuff, including sun-60,
the beautiful south, and - of course - the innocence
mission (if you don't know either of those two other
bands, do yourself a favor and check them out -
sun-60's "only" and the beautiful south's "blue is the
colour" are among my favorite discs ever).

back to the point...i'm pretty sure that the first
song i'd heard on wyep was "and hiding away," which
means that it may not have been until 1991. anyhoo, i
thought "wow...i'm really digging this song." some
time later, i stumbled across their self-titled cd at
our local library, so i rented it, eventually bought
it and every other i.m. cd, and i've been hooked ever
since.

how's that for a long-winded answer to a really simple
question? :)
