>Now I need to know how I can connect my old Zip drive to my new iMac. The Zip
>drive has a SCSI/DB25 port. Do they make adapters to connect it to a USB or
>firewire port?
Sure do. Look up USB to SCSI to see the possibilities. And since your
SCSI port is DB25 you won't need to purchase an extra gender changer.
I paid $125 Canadian for an Adaptec USBXchange so that I can continue
to use my SCSI peripherals, including CD-R burner, Syquest, extra CD
drive and SCSI scanner. One word of caution, even though the
literature says up to seven devices at a time, the small print
specifies that Mac is limited to one so you'll be do some swapping
out of cables if you have multiple peripherals.
Belkin also makes a similar cable so be sure to price out the
differences between the two or three brands available. If you don't
have a powered USB hub, you may have to purchase an extra power
transformer available at Radio Shack. Otherwise the power comes from
either the SCSI chain or the USB bus. You can also plug directly into
the USB port on the computer which is preferred.
For me, it was a good investment because my SCSI peripherals are in
good working order and I'm not wanting to be replacing them when the
technologies change so rapidly.
Check out "SCSI School" at http://www.startech.com for lots of good
information. Also the Close-Out link has some great prices as well.
