Fellow Mac Users: This is my first posting to the iMac List. I just signed up tonight because I have a specific iMac problem. I have been active for a long time on the QuadList and now have recently subscribed to the Low End Mac PPC 603 and Swap lists as well. I used to use my Quadras (950 and 840 AV) to publish and edit the Double Click newsletter for the local Mac users group here in Southern Ontario, Canada, but have recently moved on to a Sonnet-powered G3 6500/400 that I picked up on eBay a few months ago. Even more recently I also picked up on eBay a graphite iMac SE DV 500 Mhz for my daughter who had a fine year in Grade 8 last year and will be starting high school in the Fall. Unfortunately the iMac will not easily connect to any of the colour printers in the house. I now have the iMac connected via ethernet cables to the Asante DSL Router so it can share the high-speed DSL modem and see the old black & white LaserWriter Pro also connected to the hub, but the colour inkjet printers networked to the Quadra and 6500 via LocalTalk connectors cabled together are using the serial printer ports on those CPUs and the iMac is excluded from the LocalTalk network. I would like to connect one of the colour printers permanently to the iMac. Tonight I picked up an iDock for $20.00 on eBay. Great price. The seller mentioned in the listing that the AC power adapter is missing. Well, I figured I can overcome that shortage with a universal power adapter once I get some info about the iDock power requirements. What he failed to tell me untill after I won the auction is that the iDock is also missing the software driver CD and all of the paperwork and manuals that originally came with it !!!! Rats !!! Rats with long furry tails !!! What I need to know now is this: Are any of you using the iDock ? I won the first generation iDock, the one with three USB ports, two Geoport serial ports and one parallel port. Could somebody please have a good look at the literature and the power supply that goes with the first iDock and let me know what the Voltage and Amperage of the power supply should be? Can I induce someone to burn me a copy of the CD that comes with the iDock or send me the drivers required for a specific printer. The colour printers we have here are the Epson Stylus Color 600, HP DeskWriter 660C, and the HP DeskJet 850C. I don't know if all or any of these can be used with the iDock but at this point I have no software at all. In exchange for this assistance ...we can work something out. And another thing...is there something wierd about these iDock things ? Are they incompatible with OS9.1 or are they prone to crash and burn ???
