My iMac (rev.B) has been presenting me with some mysterious freezes this
past month. I'm out of ideas. It doesn't seem totally random, but I can't
reproduce it reliably. About the time I think I have a culprit nailed
down, I get blind-sided from somewhere else. I thought I had it narrowed
down to something involving a net application or OpenTransport (or some
combination) until this afternoon when it froze right in the middle of
iTunes playback. I'd try a ConflictCatcher conflict test, but the freezes
are infrequent enough (sometimes I'll go several days without a freeze)
that it would likely span more than a week, and I'm likely to forget that
I'm running a conflict test. ;-)

The symptoms are a total system freeze. No response to any input device -
all USB I/O stops. The "caps lock" light doesn't even respond. No screen
distortion; it doesn't drop into MacsBug, and the machine disappears from
the Chooser on any other computer on the local network.

Suspected culprits that I've eventually ruled out include:
Kensington MouseWorks drivers; Netscape 4.77, Nisus E-Mailer, and
Eudora Light (I first noticed the freezes while I was online and either
scrolling or changing application windows).
PPC LoadWatcher, SpellTools, Instant Palm Desktop, OSA Menu, and Time
Synchronizer (I then thought it might be some background application that
was regularly accessing the CPU).
Switched back to CarbonLib 1.2.5, but that didn't help.

I'm looking for someone who's been similarly stumped in the hopes of
finding some common denominator. I'm pretty sure it's an extension problem
since the changed behavior is relatively recent (60 days, or so). I just
wish I could figure out which one.
