Well. it looks like my Astra Umax 1220-U scanner is dying on me...It
started with just a yellowish stripe on the left side, a regular
vertical stripe...then, another one ad-up on the other side...now, its
all yellowish...
I still can see the text or photo I just scaned, but they are now just
barely good enough for archive purposes, because of that yellowish look...
Tried to re-install driver software at first, tried a minimum set of
extensions, etc...
No go...
I phone to a computer shop, and they told me that this means my lamp was kaput...
I was thinking that I made a good reliable purchase, especially because
this scanner has been higly recommended on this list, here...
Anybody can confirm this, that my lamp is gone?
Because they told me , at 'puter shop, that the price of a replacement
lamp was as high as a new scanner...I hate this type of situation...we
really are living in a consumer throw away society...
At the same time, the guy tried to sold me a new Agfa E-20 scanner for
139$ (minus 20$ postal rebate)+ taxes, of courses, I live in Quebec (15% taxes).
Anybody knows if it's a good machine, and if the price is good?
Anybody have ever used a firewire scanner?
IT's my understanding that they are still very expensive, no?
