Time Warner is going to (allegedly - they keep delaying) implement their
Road Runner cable modem service in my area within the next 30 days. I was
wondering if anyone had any experience with them and could answer the
following questions:
1. The service is supposed to be bundled with Road Runner as an ISP. What is
the quality / problems (if any) with this ISP?
2. What is the quality of the service in general, as far as speed &
reliability?
3. I had envisioned the following set up, as it seemed most cost effective.
Using my iMac as a software based Airport station to share with my iBook,
causing me to only have to purchase 2 Airport cards. Would this work, or
would I have to spend the extra $10 for another IP address? A friend
suggested I purchase a router & configure a network. If I were to do that,
what would be the best router / set up?
4. Since I had cable modem service in the past & am familiar with the set
up, is there any reason not to purchase the self install kit?
5. Is there anything else I should be aware of?
I haven't had cable modem service in over a year & really miss it. My old
provider was a local company that I was very satisfied with. I'm a little
leery of dealing with the big guys, as I like to work with smaller, local
companies when can.
TIA.
