I believe it was the video card that went. There is nothing you can really do but take it in for service. It cost me nothing to get it fixed as I had bought the Applecare plan only two weeks before but they told me it would have cost $260.00 (cdn) to get it fixed had I not had the plan. The service tech told me the sparking sounds are a result of the video card shorting out. It is not a sound you want to hear coming from your computer.
