You can hook up an older Apple monitor directly or any VGA monitor with an
adapter.  You need an adapter with a male DB15 end (15 pins in two rows) and a
female HD15 end (15 pins in three rows, like a PC VGA).  They sell on ebay for
$5-$10 delivered.  I currently have one "headless" rev B iMac with an external
19" monitor.  If you have
trouble finding an adapter, let me know and I'll mail one to you.
