Thanks to all who responded. And please forgive me for not being completely
clear in the first place. I mentioned Mah Jongg because that was the main game
on the Windows CD that included the game I was looking for.

The best version mentioned on the list seems to be Plunk

These are exactly the type of game I was looking for so I have downloaded all of
them for my wife to evaluate and make a choice. My favorites are Plunk and
BubbleX so far.
