I come not to bury the G3, but to praise It..." to paraphrase an
article on the G4 Cube (a computer before its time?) from MacSpeedZone.
Having just joined today, I'm sorry I missed the collective excitement
that must have brimmed over on this list when the new G4 imac was
first
introduced.
Regards, Donald

I think the cube was a great concept that came to fruition in the new
iMac. Just a -bit- overpriced. I know I wanted one. I would love a new
iMac but the G3 I have is so good for the limited things I do that
there is no way I can justify it. Hey, do I have a great wife? I was
looking at an ad for the new iMac, and she said, "Do you want me to
buy you one?" And she hates Macs, actually she hates the sh...y PC,
brand new, that she has to deal with at work, and her bad vibes carry
over to the Mac at home. She will not even sit down in front of it
unless there is a long e-mail for her. Want a totally uninformed
prediction? The next iMac upgrade will still be white, but inside will
be some nice stuff. Wait till summer if you can stand the suspense,
otherwise buy a new iMac and just sell it for a slight loss when the
new one hits the ground. iMacs seem to hold value really well, the
original blue ones still command $400 or so, even with an older OS, a
new iMac with OS X won't lose much value at all. So you lose a few
bucks, your posts do not seem those of a guy REALLY hurting for cash.

I paid off this G3 in a few months with minimal editing work for my
company. I can easily justify a new one on that grounds alone, but it
is such a nice reliable non-stressful machine that I will keep it for
a long time, I think. Knock on polypropylene. My next Mac, coming this
June, will be an iBook. Pant Pant. Sorry for the long ramble
