Kevin, Thanks for the information. I think I'll try to find a low-noise brushless fan, and drop the voltage down if the base fan is still too noisy.
I have an iForce 400 CPU replacement in the unit; I was originally concerned about slowing down the fan but, at least according to Gauge Pro (see below), the iForce runs cooler than the stock iMac CPU card (90-100 deg F vs. 125-136 deg F). FYI, if you want to check the temperature on your iMac's processor, you can use Newer's Gauge Pro freeware. You can find it here: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/4512 There are 2 download links provided. It's a pretty small app that provides basic info on the CPU and system as well as running basic memory tests. I tried it, it didn't work well. The problem is the cooling fan sits right below the CRT gun. The spinning magnetic field from the fan causes a nauseating wobbling effect on the screen. If you insist on replacing it, it is a standard size 92mm fan but be sure you get a brushless fan. The spinning magnetic field is much weaker on a brushless motor than a standard one. A better way to quiet your iMac is to slow down the fan. I did that several months ago and it still runs fine. Now the hard drive is the loudest component in my mac, and heat has not been a problem (the computer is on nearly 24/7).
