Hey All: I'm going to upgrade the RAM my iMac DV at home by installing a 256MB stick (at least) to replace the 64MB stick already in the machine. I don't need gobs of RAM, as I'm sticking with OS 9.2.2 until I can afford a G4 (maybe even the new eMac--I teach English at a community college and requisitions are just around the corner...). I don't do video or graphic design--just page layout, simple HTML coding, word processing, email, and Internet surfing.
I was wondering if it made a difference what brand of RAM I bought. Does generic RAM differ significantly in performance or stability from name-brand RAM like Viking or Kingston or Micron? RAM prices seem to be coming down again (slightly), but primarily for generic RAM. 1-800-Memory, Boundless Technology, and Other World Computing all sell generic RAM at extremely reasonable prices, but I guess my question in a nutshell is whether generic RAM is safe.
