Most cd burning software locks up your machine while it's running. That means you can't do anything else with your computer while writing a disk. Basically divide 80 minutes by your potential cd burners speed and you'll get the amount of time it will take to completely fill a CD. If you want the cd verified for data accuracy then double the time. If 20 minutes to make a cd is no big deal to you then a USB model would be fine. I highly suggest spending a few extra dollars on Firewire model, go with at least 8x. You'll find yourself using it a lot more than you thought.
