You're right- right now you can get a refurbished 600 mhz iMac from smalldog
for about $830- then you have firewire, 256 mb ram, CD-RW and 40 gb hd, OS 9
and X. If that's your goal, it's cheaper/better to buy it all at once than a
bit at a time. But if it just takes more ram, or a bigger HD to satisfy your
needs for another yr, it's worth it to do that. Then in a yr, that 600 iMac
with all the trimmings will be cheaper.

Well, you could just buy another used rev C then and transfer all your stuff
to it, and sell the usable parts on the dead machine to recoup part of the
cost.
