That is just manufacturer scare tactics. They will try to tell you that the use of a cartridge that doesn't have their label pasted on it will damage the machine and invalidate the warranty. The solution is to either use their labeled cartridges until the warranty expires, or, if the printer malfunctions with a generic cartridge while under warranty, put a new, fresh "branded" cartridge in and see if it works then. If not, take in in to be fixed (leave in the branded cartridge.) Apple said the same thing about their printers: "You have to use Apple brand cartridges" Nevermind that "Apple" printers were just re-branded Canon & HP printers and the cartridges were just re-labeled "Canon" & "HP" cartridges. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that there are only a couple of printer cartridge companies who make all the cartridges for the printer manufacturer and the replacement versions: so many in this lot get HP labels, the next bunch in the same lot get "brand Y" labels.
