In general, it's best to connect powered devices to the keyboard, that is,
devices that have their own power cord, and don't draw all their electricity
from the keyboard.

Most Printers and scanners would be powered devices.

"Apple System Profiler", in the Apple Menu, will let you see how much power
each device on your USB bus is using.

If you plug in too many things to a USB port, you'll usually get a message
along the lines of "The device 'bah blah' cannot operate beause there isn't
enough power.'"
