Hi, This is the first time Ive written to imac_list, so Im not sure if what Ive written below is too short, too long, not relevant, or just too stupid to be accepted. But it is a genuine question and if I could get some help, it would really be appreciated.
I recently read an article my Charles Moore on his Miscellaneous Ramblings entitled Redux 2.6.2 File Backup Software Released as Freeware written on 1st Feb, 2000. In that article he says, Redux offers a rich backup feature set, including incremental backups, filtering to selectively backup just a few files or entire volumes, scheduled backups, an easy to understand scripting language, and straightforward retrieval of archived information. Redux will backup files to any desktop-mountable device, including external hard drives and removable storage media. This sounded just what I had been looking for, so I downloaded the file. My problem is this: When I run "Redux", it opens a window saying, "Welcome to Redux. Do you wish to Backup or to Restore a disk? When I click on the "Backup" button, another window appears where you can choose the source and target disk. There does not seem to be any way of choosing a file or folder except the Hard Drive as the Source Disk. How can I get it to select a file or folder? In the preferences under the Edit menu, there are four options with each option having a number of check boxes. None of options allow me to do any filtering or scheduling as others have written it can do. I sent an email to Mr Charles Moore, but he wasnt able to help me (He was the one who suggested I seek help in a forum such as this). Written testimonies by others (in Moores article) seem to suggest it is easy to use and needs no instructions. Well I seem to have no end of trouble getting mine to do what they say it is supposed to do. Either I don't have the full application downloaded (it says I have Redux 2.6.2(PPC) version) or I can't understand how to use it. I admit Im no expert, but I dont consider my self a novice either. I'd really appreciate some help. Michael. -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
