No, it's not a stupid question, just a stupid occurrence. The same thing 
has been happening to me and I'm on regular email and not digest form.

This confirmation request thingy periodically also happens on other of 
these lists.
It occurs when I am on QUICMAIL on OS 9.2.2 or this mail version 
incorporated into
OS X++++. It doesn't seem to mater.
