Don't be so hard on yourself! I had a similar "problem" with a classic screen saver recently, but it was actually functioning exactly as it should have been. While in OS X, just try turning off "Frank the Alien" via its (OS 9) control panel; you shouldn't need to get rid of it entirely. Perhaps every OS 9 screen saver works this way when classic is running on OS X?
