I had similar problems with the Apple USB keyboard I purchased
separately. Stiffness, sticky keys and eventually a repeating key
problem. I figured it was going to need to be replaced, so I had nothing
to lose trying to clean it.

Disassembled the keyboard Took the key pad and washed it with warm
water, then dried in the oven on low (170F) heat for 8 hours.
Lubricated the plastic mechanical parts of each switch with BreakFree
TFE lube. (use a toothpick for an applicator).. Put it all back together
and it's been working fine since then. Now works just as smoothly as the
one that came with junior grade daughter's iMac.

The problem was with the mechanical portion of the switches. Granted it
was a little drastic, but I had nothing to lose. You might try servicing
the old one before trashing it?
