I seem to remember reading something about transferring folders having a LOT of data would cause a problem like this. Can't remember the explanation but had something to do with the architecture and the way it handled ethernet transfers maybe. Anyway, the work-around was to transfer your files in smaller chunks -- instead of copying a 4MB folder, cop 1 or 2 MB at a time.
