Hi all, This is a long post, so be forewarned and skip it if you prefer.
I'm sorry if this is a question that has been answered before, but I'm looking for troubleshooting advice. I have a Bondi rev. B iMac (233 mHz, 192 RAM) on which OS 10.1.3 worked dutifully, if not swiftly. I finally got around to updating to 10.1.5 this week, following Apple's recommended procedure of the 7-18-02 Security Update, 10.1.5 update, then the Network Update 1.0. This procedure worked beautifully on my Titanium Powerbook 550, but immediately after installing it on my iMac, I noticed several inter-related problems. 1) The phone icon for Internet Connect disappeared from the menu bar, and I can't put it back via Network System Prefs because the "Apply Now" panel is grayed out. I've checked and rechecked, and I still have administrative privileges as a user, so I don't understand this. 2) The speaker icon in the menu bar will no longer respond to adjust the volume. 3) Most importantly, I get the Spinning Beachball of Death every time I launch Internet Connect, so I cannot connect to the Internet. It's not a modem issue, because I am currently using that same modem to send this message via 9.2.1. This is what I've done so far to troubleshoot: 1) Trashed the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist in Library/Preferences 2) Deleted temporary files using Print Center Repair 3) Rebooted several times, turned the computer off and on several times 4) Under OS9, run both DiskFirstAid and Norton Utilities and zapped the PRAM five times 5) Booted from the OSX Install disk and run Disk Utility, which reported no errors. 6) Doublechecked my privileges in the User System Preferences, then logged off and on several times Unfortunately, none of this works. I've checked the discussions at Apple, which is where I got most of these ideas. I'm beginning to think that I should downgrade to 10.1.3, although that will probably involve starting from scratch with a basic 10.1 install from the CD. And I really don't want to do that, since I have to have both 9.2.1 and 10 on the same partition on my version iMac, and so I'd have to wipe the entire partition clean and reinstall *both* Systems, just to reinstall 10.1.3. Sigh. So I'm hoping that perhaps someone on this list will have some insight that will keep me from having to do that. Thanks so much for your patience in reading this.
