I think we've lost sight of the premise, here.  My original comment was 
that I didn't buy the argument that viruses occur less frequently on a 
Mac because of it's low market share in comparison to Windows.  The 
comment does not address whether or not virus protection is a good 
thing on a Mac.

If notoriety were the "ROI", would I not expect to gain a greater 
"bang" by affecting a system that is known for its virus resistance for 
the past 15 years?  Or would I get a bigger bang by writing a virus for 
a platform which is notorious for being almost accidentally infected on 
a routine basis?

You see, I don't believe that Macs are any less a target for such 
mischief because of low market share.  We're not talking about a single 
Everest, Rushmore, or Matterhorn among the many "piles of rocks".  
There are enough Macs in the market that if such mischief were easily 
accomplished, we would in fact see a lot more virus activity than has 
occurred.
