I just purchased "MacaRa Modem Magic" in order to stabilize (I hope) the performance of my internal modem (G3 iMac 400 slot loader). So far, it is showing improvement on the OS 9.2 version.
The program has separate installations for OS 9.2.2. and for OS 10.1.5 I haven't installed the OS X version yet because the installation instructions call for enabling the "root" feature - this is a multiple user function, requiring an Administrator, passwords, etc. My major concern with this arrangement is my belief that it will make my computer vulnerable to hackers. If anyone is using the root feature on OS X, I would appreciate feedback on whether I am being overly cautious in this regard. Will my iMac be as secure with root enabled as before, or am I opening myself up for possible problems? Thanks for your input. Larry -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
