I have a problem with the CD-ROM drive on my iMac G3 / 333. It started to get a bit flaky a year or so back and sued to be slow mounting CD's - you could hear the drive winding up and down and the heads going trying to read. After it got worse, I downloaded the CD Update 2.0 from the Apple site and applied it. Things appeared ok for a while, but at some point the drive appeared to get worse. Most of my data and audio CD's won't load now, although some fire up immediately first try.
Can anyone assist here ? A refurbished drive is about NZ$375 which is a bit steep if it doesn't need replacing. -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
