While I take no umbrage with your preference and the reasoning you give for it since it accommodates your needs, the reason top posting is considered poor netiquette is because emails to the list are for group consumption and benefit, not a private exchange of communications between two or a few restricted, interested parties. As such, the subscriber to the group should be able to read any post at any point within the thread and follow a logical succession of communications and contributions to the thread or pertinent parts thereof. For instance, in the example you cite for your preference, one could take it to the next step and simply eliminate any quoting. As you said, you know the question well enough, why even bother wasting bandwidth with any of the original question at all? We bother to include quotes because it's good netiquette; that's why. Sure, there are a lot more important things going on in the world than wether someone top ot bottom posts, but if you're going to do something and be a positive member of the community, you might as well try to do what's best for the group. Lastly, please understand that I'm not trying to be a jackass. I've received tremendous outpourings of help from members of this list when I've asked, and I try to be as helpful in kind whenever I'm able, but I thought it was worthwhile noting there is a purpose to this discussion and that it isn't necessarily just the petty preference of certain members or tyrannical list owners. These "rules" have evolved over the years, and just like rules in real life, sometimes they impose on certain individuals, but they're there because presumably they help the largest number of people. dave -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
