To answer your original question, many sites don't specifically say whether it's Mac or Windows compatible. They just assume one or the other. There are some tell-tale signs as to which it's compatible with. Here's a simple list I just created. If the file ends in: .exe it's for PC only. .zip it's usually for PC but could be for Mac. .sea, hqx, dmg or smi it's for Mac. .sit it's usually for Mac but could also be for PC. Only once have I seen a file ending in .exe which Stuffit Expander recognized as a PC self expanding archive and uncompressed it.
