Sounds like the problem I had... the HD is either not compatible (you mentioned 'used HD') or has some funny problem with it. The after booting from CD, the HD icon would show up on the screen and the HD could be reformatted, and system software reinstalled, but the iMac just wouldn't boot from it. Plopped in two other 'old' HDs - same thing (wouldn't boot); plopped in a new HD and it was fine.<< Before going to the extreme of swapping hard drives, try these and see if one works. BTW, if there was a problem with the HD, you wouldn't have been able to install Jag in the first place. I am not an expert as some on this list, but I do recall in the past on other lists that this sounds very much like the issue when the Mac displays a question mark at startup; the problem is (may be) that the machine can't find a startup disk with a blessed system folder. If this is the problem, it is pretty easy to fix; in fact, the Apple Knowledge Base article # 58348 address this. Their solution is as follows: Solution: 1. Start the computer from the Mac OS disc that came with the computer. 2. Select a disk in the Startup Disk control panel. 3. Restart the computer. Simply, startup from a CD; go to the OS X system folder, then go to the startup disk control panel in the system folder; select "Internal" or whatever disk has OS X installed on it; close the control panel; restart without the CD. >From what I've seen in various user reports, an OS X install can often not set the internal drive to be the startup disk...for whatever buggy reason. If this does, or doesn't work, please reply back to the list to let us know how it goes. Jerry -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
