"Hi, my name is Dave, and I'm an iMacoholic."

(1999 Graphite DV/SE G3/400 running OS 9.2.2 on a 30G Maxtor HD---the
original 13G Quantum Fireball smoked itself, along with 8G of
files---any pointers on CHEAP data recovery? I could swap out the
platters, but I need to know what drives would be compatible as a
transplant recipient, as I can't seem to find a working 13G QF.)

Now, to the issue at hand...

I was under the impression that this forum was specifically intended
for disscussion of issues relevant to iMac users. In order to meet
this requirement, one would assume, the discussion should be confined
to topics directly relevant to the use of iMacs.

Did I misunderstand?

A few of you seem to be having great fun (or fume) indulging in
debates having nothing whatsoever to do with iMac usage. Well, I'm
happy fer ya, but look:

--There is a multitude of lists for debating philosophical issues...

--There is a virtual infinity of lists for discussion of political
and legal issues...

--There is even a modest plethora of lists specifically for those
whose sole interest is to insult one another...

Okay, we all feel the urge to go off on a satiric rant from time to
time, but if you just can't control your impulses in this regard,
then maybe you should join a list for satire writers or wannabe
pundits.

Try this: go to the "Waiting For Socrates" listserv, post a message
about iMac extension conflicts...and then see what happens! Or go to
the Sacramento City Council meeting, step up to the podium and
deliver a speech on the Peoria Manure Sculpture Society...then see
what happens!

Hmmm...well, I too am a student of Ghandi, and if you've read
Thoreau's classic essay "Civil Disobedience" I might enjoy discussing
it with you, assuming it's not the ONLY thing you've read...BUT NOT
HERE!

This is, by function and definition, a "special-interest" group.
There is a reason for that---EFFICIENCY---none of which exists in my
mailbox right now.

In other words, GIVE US A BREAK by following this dubious adaptation
on some rather tiresome motherly advice:

"If you can't say anything about iMacs,
then don't say anything at all."
:-)

(end satiric rant)

Best wishes,

Dave March
