Does anybody have the Sims games on their Macs ?
Probably a stupid question: Do you have The Sims program installed before
you try to install The Sims Living Large Expansion Pack ?

Yes ...I do. It is a pre-requisite to the expansion packs. I had the original Sims game carbon version set up and running fine but once I installed Living Large, I was unable to get the corresponding carbon version to run. Hence my note to this list.

If I get another expansion pack, I might be able to get the carbon version of that particular expansion pack to work. If that was successful, the Living Large carbon version would no longer be necessary. But...that will cost another $50-60 (cdn). I guess I'll just keep playing Living Large in OS 9 until I can figure out a different solution or until another suggestion is offered.
