I got a Keyspan for $35 on eBay - I'd imagine they continue to appear 
as people upgrade serial->USB printers, but this was several years 
ago & I haven't looked lately.

It's used with an original HP Deskwriter (pre-color! over 10 years 
old now & going strong) on my father's iMac & it's NEVER been flakey 
- the combination is solid as a rock.  But that DOESN'T mean OTHER 
combinations aren't flakey.
