LCDs are *great* for the eyes, but some of us like/need/prefer CRTs anyway. The $60 swivelling stand that is sold as an option for the eMac is a very good idea. The Pro is of course that it's way cheaper! :) > It will be used primarily for business (non-graphics), and digital > photo > hobby purposes. > > This will be my first new mac, thus plan to buy applecare with it.(any > comments?) > EXCELLENT idea. Highly recommended. > Any and all input gladly received and appreciated. 1. Buy more RAM. OS X works better with lots of RAM. iPhoto also works better with lots of RAM. Another 256MB (for a total of 512) should do the job, but 768MB would be better if you can afford it. 2. Buy DiskWarrior/PlusOptimiser from Alsoft.com or the Apple store. $70. If the rumours are true that DW3 will be out in mid-Feb, you may want to wait, but be sure to get it. Run it maybe once a month. 3. Once a month you should fire up Disk Utility (which comes with the eMac) and run "Repair Permissions." That's basically it. You might want to pick up a good book on OS X if you want to explore it further than the average user, but otherwise I think you are good to go. Your eMac may come with the new iLife package, or you may get a voucher to get it at a reduced rate (assuming you will be buying/taking delivery of the eMac between Jan 25th and early Feb), so enjoy! _Chas_ "We don't want to be like Windows.
