Hello List,

My 20 gig drive has 3 partitions on it. One is for OS X, one for OS 9, and
one for Everything Else. While doing some housekeeping on the third
partition, I opened a folder that contained about 1,200 downloaded files. I
was trying to sort them out, creating new folders to organize them with to
burn to CD later. When I tried to move some (maybe 10 to 20 at a time,
under 200K each) to a folder, the iMac took as much as five minutes or more
to accomplish this relatively minor task, depending upon how many I tried to
move at one time. I was merely moving them to a folder on the same
partition. At first, it appeared that nothing was happening, then after a
couple of minutes, I got the spinning candy. After a few more minutes, the
files were finally moved to the folder. No programs other than the Finder
were running. There's over 4 gig of space left on that partition, so it
wasn't running out of disk space. Restart didn't help. Any ideas why this
is taking so long, and is there anything that can be done about it?

Thanks,

Gerry
